Zuckerberg's Facebook And Instagram Indefinitely Suspend Donald Trump

On the 6th of January 2021, during the congressional certification of the results, trump urged his supporters to match to the Capitol Hill to disrupt the results' certification, which then forced the congress to evacuate. It’s for this reason that on Wednesday, after a pro-Trump riot that stormed the U.S capitol, the owner and the Chief Executive Officer/Director of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg put across that Facebook and Instagram had banned president Trump from using its platforms. Mark Zuckerberg was shocked by the events taking place that as failure to have a peaceful transition of power from president trump to the elect president Joe Biden. Mark Zuckerberg added that the ban would last for two weeks until the end of Trump’s presidency.

Mark Zuckerberg said the decision to ban Trump from using the two platforms for close to two weeks was made on Wednesday amid the chaos in Washington DC caused by Trump, who incited rioters' actions. Overwhelming fear arose that Trump would continue to cause more violence using Facebook and Instagram; hence the ban was imposed.

Mark Zuckerburg added that “over the last several years, we have allowed President Trump to use our platforms consistent with our own rules, at times removing content or labeling his posts when they would violate our policies. We did this because we believed that the public has a right to the broadest possible access to a political speech, even controversial speech. Mark Zuckerburg went ahead to write that,” but the current context is now fundamentally different, involving the use of our platforms to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government. We believe the risks of allowing the president to continue to use our service during this period are too great. Therefore we are extending the block we have placed on Trump’s Facebook, and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until a peaceful transition of power is complete. “

The ban imposed on Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts took place following Trump's statement while telling people involved in rioting that “we love you, you are exceptional” instead of condemning their actions.

After confirming Joe Biden as the next president, Trump promised an orderly transition on 20th January. He said on his Twitter page that “even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, there will be an orderly transition on 20th January. “Donald Trump added in a statement that “I have always said that we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to make America great again.”

President Donald Trump, who had been previously blocked by Twitter and returned to Twitter on Thursday with a video that was recognizing Joe Biden as the next president of the United States of America. Twitter unblocked Trump after deleting three rule-breaking tweets, various social media and engaging platforms including Amazon.com Inc have blocked President Donald Trump from using their social sites after inciting a riot in which four people were killed and were suspecting further violence using social media if at all they had not blocked or disabled his accounts.

Do you think this move of blocking and disabling President Donald Trump’s social channels as a way of curbing down his violent actions was worth it? What is your view?
